Interested in thriller and mystery? Check out the dark psychological novel “Gone Girl” by Gillian Flynn. Published on June 2012 the novel became quite popular and won the Goodreads choice awards best mystery and thriller. A story about a very complicated marriage between a smart, good-looking guy named Nick and his wife Amy, a beautiful and brilliant woman.

The book alternates the two-point of view on their marriage which is extremely different. Nick describing Amy as an irrational perfectionist and Amy’s diary portraying Nick as an aggressive, threatening husband. When the couple lost their jobs in New York and were forced to relocate to Missouri, the two had conflicting mindsets. Nick lowered his expectations and wanted to help his sick mom, while Amy was stuck with over the top expectations and badly misses New York. This is where the turning point of their marriage takes place. On the day of their anniversary, his wife Amy goes missing. The eyes of the media and close ones are watching Nick as it was up to him to uncover the mystery of his wife’s disappearance.

The story progresses from there and will make you ask yourself, “Should I believe this?” As events from the past are shown, the truth becomes clearer. You’ll discover that the relationship is severely toxic and dysfunctional. It amazes me how complex the story is but somehow everything ties together so perfectly.

This book has a lot of twists and suspenseful moments and I was shocked for every one of the twists revealed. Be aware this book does contain some dark and mature content, but if you are okay with that don’t let it stop you from reading it. On the other hand, you really should give this book a try because I really can’t express how good it is. Take on this book’s roller-coaster journey of dark psychological events and thrilling adventure. The impact at the end is surely spine chilling!
