Joining clubs at MHS

Kelvin Ku, assistant editor

Clubs at McKinley High School are groups that are led by students and an adviser, that participate in various activities, hobbies and interests. There is a Club Day held every year in August, and it gives students the chance to join clubs that interest them. MHS offers over 30 clubs, and even more are being made throughout the school year. In just this past quarter, there have been about 5 new clubs added to the roster.

“My purpose was to have the chance to join new social groups,” sophomore Daniel Lee said. “This would allow me to meet like-minded individuals who share the same interest.” Lee is a member of the Korean Club and E-sports Club.

Many clubs have a long-standing history at MHS.

Physics and Astronomy Club treasurer Dean Gomez is one of the people responsible for managing the club. Gomez makes sure the club assets are maintained and that they don’t go over budget. As one of his responsibilities Gomez went to Club Day.

“I brought my laptop and mouse and I presented to anyone interested,” Gomez said

Clubs, new or old, might be uncertain or worried about how to achieve their goals as a club.

“The best thing to do is just be active,” Principal Ron Okamura said.
