“The Tale of Despereaux” by Kate DiCamillo is about a mouse named Despereaux, who lives in a castle and falls in love with a princess who lives there as well. The princess is called Princess Pea. This story also involves dungeon rats, a king, a cook, a jailer, and soup.
Although this book is written at a fifth grade level, high school students and adults can also enjoy this book.

“The tale of Despereaux” is only 269 pages long and has some vocabulary words that high school students may not know.
When I read “The Tale of Despereaux,” I found the story entertaining and touching. This story teaches about empathy, forgiveness and kindness, and the characters in the story display that.
