This quarter I just felt that there were not many news stories to cover. It made me feel lost about what to write and thus caused procrastination. My first story idea this quarter was about a senior making a petition to have a name-called graduation ceremony. I happen to know about this petition from my classmates in English class. It is important to catch every opportunity in life and find a good story idea. I had problems finding what to write for my other two articles. Later. I decided to write about an ELL student in my newswriting class. Due to lack of time, I could not do much research or many interviews. I decided to improve my article next quarter and write about ELL students’ situation in the school. During my interview to an ELL teacher, he told me that there was a student doing senior project on ELL students. That is also a good story idea and I plan to write about that next quarter. Good story ideas can sometimes be a big surprise.

Story ideas will not jump to your head. You need to go out, ask people and finally you will find something valuable.
