Roar!!! Crash!!! Boom!!! Bang!!!  A McKinley Tiger here. A Mckinley Tiger there.  This year McKinley High School celebrates their 150th year.

It was August 7, 2015.  In the beginning, the student council introduced themselves to the freshmen and everyone else who didn’t knew who they were.  Music began playing.  Everyone yelled, the ground shook, people had a good time in the flash mob.

Boom, music stopped and everyone applauded.  The school mascot came in and brought everyone joy and pride.  The freshmen were excited especially that it’s their first year here.  They couldn’t wait to experience every moment of this school year.

During the assembly, principal Ron Okamura welcomed the sophomores, juniors, and seniors.  Then he welcomed the freshmen.  The principal gave the students an inspiring speech about seniors giving it their all and freshmen starting their first high school year.

“You should focus on your work you know,” Okamura said.  “Work hard, play hard… have a great year.”

On that day, it was the last welcome back assembly for the seniors, but the freshmen have started their chapter and their page has turn after the assembly.

The cheer team jumped in.  There were flips here and there and people flying in the air.  The students were yelling and screaming for more.  Everyone was on the edge of their seat and thought they might might fall down after seeing those flips and people flying in the air. When they ended it with a big bang, the students gave a round of applause.  So many “wows” and “awes” went through the students.  It was amazing to watch them perform and show what they could do.  The cheerleaders bowed as the students applauded them and grabbed their mats and moved on.

The assembly was almost over.  Students were ready to go to lunch.  So how did they wrap up?  The students stood up and sang the fight song.  The band played loud and proud.  Students were waving, the crowd joined along, and everyone was happy.

So Tigers let’s make this year count.  Join clubs or sports  to meet more people.

“We wish more students could come out to join,” athletic director Bob Morikuni said.
