Climate change a threat to humans

Climate change is threatening our world.

The Marshall Islands, where some McKinley High School students come from, is being swallowed up by the sea because of sea level rise. Thousands of people will have to leave their homes because of climate change. This will be all of us if we don’t do anything about climate change.

“By 2030, we’re expected to be underwater. So, it is our livelihood. It is the very existence of the Marshall Islands that’s at stake.” said Hilda Heine, president of the Marshall Islands.

In 2018, Hawaii almost got hit by a category 4 hurricane called Lane, so this threat is at our doorstep. The temperature of the ocean is warmer than how it used to be, and that affects hurricane, because the warmer the water is the stronger the hurricane is. I don’t want to grow up in a world that is being swallowed up by the sea.

“You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words. And yet I’m one of the lucky ones. People are suffering. People are dying. Entire ecosystems are collapsing. We are in the beginning of a mass extinction, and all you can talk about is money and fairy tales of external economic growth. How dare you!” said Greta Thunberg. A 16 year old, a climate activist.

Thurnberg is my inspiration for protesting against climate change,  She was born in Sweden, and travels around the world using boats. “You are failing us. But the young people are starting to understand your betrayal. The eyes of all future generations are upon you. And if you choose to fail us, I say: We will never forgive you.” said Thunberg. Save the Earth!
