About the Contributors

Dominic Niyo, editor
Aloha, my name is Dominic Niyo, Class of 2026. I serve as an editor for The Pinion, where I oversee both print and online publications. In addition to this role, I mentor new journalism students and guide them through the process. I’m also a graphic designer, photographer, and manage our social media platforms.
I joined newswriting as a freshman to explore the journalism industry, as I was inspired by reporters covering the 2020 pandemic. This year, I returned to continue The Pinion’s 100-year legacy of delivering insightful content. Through my work, I aim to inspire thoughtful conversations and highlight stories that reflect the values of our community.

Cheska Orias, Editor-in-Chief
Hi there guys, girls, and non-binary pals, I am Cheska Orias, Class of 2026. I love all things art which includes drawing, painting, writing, and crafting! I also love anything related to psychology or anthropology, especially those long video essays on a specific psychological topic, and I base a lot of my work on that. You’ll probably find some of my digital art on here, and on other staffers’ articles.
This is my third year on The Pinion staff and I’m excited to be here once again. Topics you’ll find me writing about are mental health/psychology-related things and anything related to the arts! I’m looking forward to working with this year’s Pinion staff :D If you have any article ideas you want me to write about, email me at [email protected] or any of my other socials!
Positions over the years:
Year 1: Reporter
Year 2: Reporter/Assistant-Editor
Year 3: Editor-in-Chief

Kena Anien, reporter
Hi my name is Kena Mj Anien! I am a sophomore at McKinley Highschool and this is my first year in The Pinion. I joined The Pinion because I thought it would be something fun to do and also cause I wanted to do something new for a change . My goal this year is to do my very best so I can be a good reporter/photographer for the pinion. I hope I can apply all the things that I learn in newswriting to my everyday life even if I’m not reporting.
