What is McKinley High Schools favorite kpop group?

Kpop has to be one of the most popular trends going on right now. With the world phenomenons BTS or known as bang tan sonyeondan in Korea that have arguably taken over the world. They have reached number one on iTunes in more than 65 countries and have held first place on Billboard’s Social 50 chart for 114 weeks in a row.

Freshman Nguyen says “Kpop contains variety style of music such as rap, rock, electronic, classical, and chill all together as a combination of masterpieces.”

But even with BTS’s massive popularity are they the most popular K-pop group in McKinley High School? Other groups like EXO, Got7, and NCT127 are also on the rise of popularity also so would BTS be the most popular group in McKinley?

With my research yes, BTS is the most popular group in McKinley High School currently. With a pole that 41 people participated in out of the 50 there were 14 votes for BTS.

Nguyen says “My ultimate group is BTS.”

All the votes were voted anonymously. The runner-up is NCT with 7 votes. Third is BlackPink with 6 votes. Fourth was EXO and Twice tied with 5 votes. Even with votes for other groups BTS was the only group with double digits. So why does McKinley like them so much?

Freshman Wong says “They became my favorite as all of them had this aspect as a group that drew me in. All of them have such different personalities yet combine to make music.”

Freshman Lapurga says “They are my favorite group because they inspired me… through their dance and song lyrics.”

Even with the group’s popularity how often do people even listen to their songs on a regular basis?

Lapurga says “I always listen to their music when I’m stressed or I need to do something like to inspire me so I can do my work.”

Wong says “Every day… their music calms me down or it’s just good background music.”

But did these people start liking BTS from the start? From what I gathered the people who I interviewed started off liking kpop because of BTS.

But how about someone whose favorite group is not BTS?

Freshman Trumata says that her favorite group is Twice because “I like their variety of concepts and songs. Each member has great personalities and visuals… all of their songs are good and every member is amazing to me.”

Although she started off liking a different group Mamamoo and got into kpop 3 years ago.

So who’s your favorite group? Do you think if I asked each person in McKinley the results would be the same? Or do these 50 people speak for the vast majority?
