McKinley High School seniors, Clarisse Lee, David Chung and Jayne Yang, represented McKinley in last night’s episode of It’s Academic Hawaii.

English Tony Nickelsen was their coach.

They competed against Hanalani High School and Waiakea High School. “It’s Academic Hawaii” is a high school quiz show that includes 27 Hawaii public schools and Hawaii independent schools competing against each other to become the “It’s Academic Hawaii” champion. Each episode features three high schools across the islands of Hawaii and it is composed of four rounds.

The MHS team didn’t make it to the semi-finals. The team only had a score of 230 points. The game ended with Waiakea High School from the Big Island as the victor with 540 points and Hanalani Schools came in second.

Clarisse Lee shared her thoughts about the experience in the show.

She said, “Being on ‘It’s Academic Hawaii’ was a great opportunity to represent my school, yet also have fun being on television. Although we did not win, we learned a lot by being on set and interacting with the crew and students from other schools. It is definitely something I will remember from my senior year!”
