Go Green Recycling Day

August 25, 2012 Go Green Day “Recycle, Recycle, Recycle!” were the words of encouragement given by Rene Mansho to the volunteers that helped for the go green recycling day. It was held in the parking lot of McKinley High School. Rene Mansho (Director of this event) told volunteers that this was a good opportunity for the school. This event was to go green and recycle all your unused household items. Collected items included such as computers, any type of electronics, used batteries, old furniture, cardboard boxes, scrap metal, old clothes, etc… They even collected old used cooking oil; the only thing not taken were tires. As a school all the sports dedicated their time and effort to go green. Waking up at 7 and working until 3, it was a hectic and exhausting day. Not only did volunteers just recycle, students actually went out in the community and picked up junk stranded on the streets. One of the sponsors even provided volunteers with lunch. He said that this event is one of the biggest events his company has sponsored. Sponsors for this event were people like Congresswoman Colleen Hanabusa, Governor Neil Abercrombie, & Senators Carol Fukunaga and Suzanne Chun Oakland. Overall it was a successful day considering that not only did volunteers raise money for the school but they helped planet earth.
