School starts at earlier time next year

The bell for next year will be ringing five minutes earlier.

Principal Ron Okamura said that the legislature passed the law two years ago.  The law is Act 167. This Act 167 specifies the required amount of minutes each school is required to have.

McKinley High School is not meeting that requirement.  The required time the school must have each week is 1,650 minutes.  McKinley has only 1,625 minutes each week.

Next year, Okamura is planning to increase school minutes by 25 to meet the required minutes each week.

“I don’t feel that big of a difference since it is early by just a little, but have to go to class early,” Junior Wei Gong said.

“No more breakfast and am going to be late, but I will wake up the same time,” Junior Tuan Nguyen said.
