Racism still exists and it needs to be stopped!

Rodney Fano, reporter

Racism is defined as prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against a person or people on the basis of their membership in a particular racial or ethnic group, typically one that is a minority or marginalized. Racism is still happening to this day, but it can be stopped if we don’t judge each other at all. We don’t know what others have gone through and if we put ourselves in their shoes, we would feel ashamed.

Racism can be seen in police harassment. In the article the year of racism and sports it says, “ According to (Colin) Kaepernick, the silent protest represented support for people of color who are being oppressed in the United States and it was a stand against police brutality.” African Americans are being treated unfairly, causing Kaepernick to kneel during the National Anthem.

Racism has been going on for a long time and it really needs to stop. People need to stop judging others based on the color of their skin or where they came from. It’s important to treat others the same way you want others to treat you. In the article, Yes, Racism still Exist, It states “Nobody knows what another person has gone through, as nobody knows what everyone has gone through. Make it a priority to stop making judgments based on emotion, race, religion, orientation, etc.”

This statement strongly shows that racism needs to stop because everyone has gone through something bad and it is just not good to make it worse.

This can be a lesson to us Tigers. Be mindful of what you say to one another because that person might have to go through something that you could never handle. Be respectful to one another and treat them the way you want yourself to be treated.
