MHS hosts annual booksale

Stacia Mahi, reporter

Would you like to go on an adventure this summer? Visit places like Peru or France? Befriend a talking ogre or collect an owl for a pet? And do it cheaply? Well, come to Friends of the Library of Hawaii’s 64th annual book-sale at McKinley High School June 18 through June 26. Every year, a booksale is held at MHS sponsored by the Friends of the Library of Hawaii. The booksale offers a lot of great books for cheap prices The books, donated by people and libraries, are in good condition. The booksale is largely staffed by volunteers.

This year, they have 100 volunteers but they a€™re still looking for more. Go to their website friendsofthelibrary.org to volunteer. Friends of the Library of Hawaii is a non-profit organization with a mission to support, promote, and provide enhancements for all the libraries in Hawaii. With the money they collect from fundraisers like the book sale, FLH helps fund reading programs. One reading program has kids and teens reading a book a week for 6 weeks. If they complete the challenge, their name gets entered into a drawing to win a prize.

Friends of the Library of Hawaii also covers program supplies and things that are not covered by the state’s budget. FLH also has scholarships for those that major in Library Science.
