Tiger Week motivates students

Tiger week ran from Feb. 25 to March 1 and featured various dress up days. The week ended with an assembly where the Tigers welcomed some  special guests.

One dress up day was Meme Dress-up day. Junior Brithanie Martinez enjoyed the spirit week, and was pleasantly surprised Meme Day.

“We had meme day this year and I appreciate everyone that made it happen because I never thought McKinley would have one,” Martinez said.

This spirit week also incorporated some special guests to pump students up. On Thursday, DJs from 104.3 played music and gave out prizes at lunch. Various booths with games and snacks were around as well, attracting students from all over campus. At Friday’s assembly, Anthony Silva from the comedy group Da Braddahs emceed. He introduced the City Boys, a band featuring many McKinley alumni, including McKinley’s own security guard Puka Tatupu.

“”My favorite part was all the booths underneath T-Building,” said junior Ronan Mallen. “All the entertainment that showed up, like 104.3 and the City Boys, made this spirit week really stand out.”

The purpose of this spirit week was to encourage students to make the final push and end the school year strong. Throughout the assembly, emcees talked about how students may want to give up at this time of the school year, and the purpose of the assembly was to motivate them and keep them going. A video played featuring some of the students and staff to show students what it takes to be a true Tiger. The video featured familiar faces around campus including english teacher Mr. Waterman and other students.

“This is the time when students get lazy and their grades start slipping,” sophomore Mitchell Dai said. “The planned activities and event really gets the students, including myself, to work harder to finish off strong for the school year.”
